Oral hygiene and its importance.........

Now I deal on topics that I feel is predominant in the society. Oral health is so relevant yet you hear the complaint of tooth ache, bad breath, hole in the teeth etc..... So we'll learn all we need to know here.
Oral hygiene
The mouth is said to be the window of our body, isn't it? Yes it is! Therefore its important that we keep it clean healthy and not take it for granted.
Oral hygiene is a practice of keeping the mouth clean. This helps to prevent cavities,gingivitis, peridoinitis,halitosis......
PRINCIPLES OF GOOD ORAL HYGIENE
There are a lot of them but here's just few that are common and they are;
1. Brush your teeth twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste
2. Clean between your teeth at least once a day with a floss
3. Use a good mouth wash to gaggle.
4. Replace your brush every 3-4mnths
5. Limit in between meal snacks
6. Visit your dentist at least twice a year.
ORAL HYGIENE TECHNIQUES
1. BRUSHING
It's the most important step in maintaining oral hygiene.
It should be done a least twice day and after meals mostly sugary meals.
Hold your brush at angle 45° towards the gums.
Brush in a back and forth motion,making sure to reach every surface of each tooth
Brush the tongue too
Brush longer maybe for 2 mins or more
2. FLOSSING
Its a second step in maintaining oral hygiene
It helps to reach areas where a tooth brush can not reach.
Hold the floss securely with each hand
Ease the floss gently between teeth
Rub the floss up and down
Slide the floss under the gum to remove plaque
Floss at least once a day.
3. USE OF MOUTH WASH
its the third step
It helps prevent gingivitis
Its helps strengthen teeth
It helps prevent tooth decay
Use it to gaggle after brushing and flossing
Use it for up to 30secs or more as directed by the producers
4. PROFESSIONAL TECHNIQUES
Visit a dentist at least every six months
Careful brushing and flossing especially in areas that are difficult for a patient to reach on his own at home.
ADVANTAGES OF GOOD ORAL HYGIENE
i) Prevents tooth delay
ii) Prevents gingivitis
iii) Prevents plaque
iv) It prevents peridonnital diseases which may get into the blood stream and make its way into the other parts of the body
If you fail to imbibe these oral hygiene techniques,you may have the following.
A) Bad breath
B) Cavities
C) Dry mouth
D) Gum diseases e.g. gingivitis
E) Tempomandibular joint disorders
F) Tooth sensitivity
G) Tooth erosion
