TIPS ON HOW TO CHOOSE GOOD CLOTHES
These are not rules but are few tips that can help you to set up your wardrobe.
1.Get rid of old clothes or any clothing you've never worn. You can auction or donate to the needy.
2. Shop with your current wardrobe in mind;after you have gotten rid of the clothes you don't want again,take note of what you need at the moment.
3. Make a budget and stick to it; You can window shop. i.e check for different prizes of clothes that you need not want and make your budget. When you have made your budget stick to it. Pay attention to each item's value. You can also go for a good second hand if you can't afford a brand new one.
4. Choose a brand and stick to it; check on different brands of clothing and check on the one that suits you better,stick to them except you find the brands quality going down hill. Bear in mind that American brands are boxy and baggy than European brands.
5. Know your measurement for example;
- Circumference of your head for hats.
- Upper arm measurement for sleeves.
- Neck (which is important in men's clothing)
- Widest and fullest part of your chest
- Natural waist line
- Hips (for women's clothing)
- Length and inseam(the distance from your groin to the bottom of your ankles).
6. Cover the basics; pick clothes that you can wear in different scenarios. For example a nice pair of suits that fits well can be made professional and for dinner maybe later that evening, you only have to take off the jacket and if it was a female's just add a scarf and you're good to go!
7. Pick one or two neutrals; mostly for your workhorse price you need few neutrals example black,navy blue,brown, grays and trans. White is also a neural colour but the fun there is that you can combine it with other colours. You don't need so many neutrals because they don't look good together,they only make a foundation for other colours.
8. Decide on which features you will like to emphasize;
you know you can use your outfits to look slimmer,bigger,more obvious or less obvious. For example:
*Patterns; clothes with vertical lines makes your body look slimmer while those with horizontal lines make your body look wider.
*Waist lines; low waisted pants makes your body look curvier and well defined.
Structural tailoring; this can be used to emphasize and give shape to any part of the body,for example, shoulder pads make your shoulder look wider while boxy outer wears makes your upper body look wider
* Types of hem lines; for example lined skirts are good for adding curves and making your bum bum look half wide. Straight skirts do same. Tapered skirts do the opposite.
* Fit; baggy clothing will hide your definition while tighter fits will accentuate it.
9. Pick clothes that fits well but in an unflattering style. Clothes that do not hinder your movement. Be sure to always hem your pants(trousers). Especially if your not tall because a too low hem will make you look shorter.
10. Buy clothes that looks great on you. Remember that's your confidence. Shop for your current figure. If a shirt,jacket or blazer doesn't button well please go for another one. If you're swamped in a piece of clothing, it doesn't fit you. If it hangs off your shoulder, pick a different size.
11. Find colours that work for you; you should have these in mind. Find colours that match your skin undertones. People with warm undertones look better in warm clothes. And same with cool clothes. Get outfits that incorporate complementary colours. These are colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel for example purple with yellow, blue with orange, red with green.
12. Check how your clothes look from behind. A dress or suit can look great in front but terrible from behind.
13.Buy multiple versions of clothing that you like. This will help spice up your wardrobe. You should have other clothes a part from your work clothes. For example sports clothes,clothes for simple outings.
14. Pay attention to the weather or season as you purchase. Check seams,stitches. Check whether it is well lined or not depending on what you want. This may be signs of a poor quality. It is better to have a small wardrobe made up of well-made clothing than a larger one full off unnecessary cheap things.
Dress the way you want to be addressed. Enjoy your shopping...... Am heading to a shop already.
