HAVE BODY ODOUR? HERE'S WHAT IT IS AND WHAT TO DO

Body odour has a way of depreciating one's cuteness. So in case your wondering why I am handling some of these topics. We have to get some things straight before we hit the road because when we do, we want a smooth ride.

Body odour is simply an unpleasant scent from the body. It's usually obvious in teenagers and adult if its not properly taken care of.

This could be caused by the body or unhygienic behaviours which we would discuss later.

The body produces sweat. Sweat is produced by sweat glands and is often odourless. In some people you find them sweating a lot which is known as hyperhidiosis.

Now the unpleasant scent comes when there is rapid multiplication of bacteria in the presence of sweat and their breaking down of sweats into acids.

Some sweat glands could be found around the breast and they secret fat droplets into breast milk. They are found in the ear where they help to form ear wax.

The skin has the largest sweat glands. We have a gland in the skin known as Apocrine gland which is mostly around the groin, armpits and nipples. They are responsible for body odour, because they produce sweats with high protein which bacteria can break down easily.

The unhygienic part sets in when we fail to care for our body properly or ignore some parts  of our  body. For example having some grown hairs around the armpit or groin inhibits the evaporation of sweats. Our feet oozes when we wear a particular shoe for a long time,a times with dirty
Socks. Moist feet may give rise to fungi growth on the feet which causes unpleasant smell. Repetition of under wears has a negative role to play too. Some times the under wears are washed but not properly wash or dried,it can bring about an unpleasant scent. Dirty hair too!

You can prevent this by
* Using antibacterial soap, mostly if you sweat a lot.
* Shave hairs around the armpit to aid evaporation of sweat.
* Use deodorants or antiperspirants. We do have deodorants for the foot, mostly for those that have athlete foot.
* Wash your feet properly and if possible soak with warm water before washing.
* Use pumice stone to scrub out patches of dead skin around the feet. When it accumulates, it gives a breathing space for fungi.
* Wear a clean pair of socks daily. The best kind of socks to use is those made of man made fibers and wool.
* If you have to wear shoes with plastic linings like trainers, don't wear them for too long. Don't wear the same pair of shoes for two straight days in a row.
* Put on fresh under wear daily. Women and nursing mothers should not repeat their bra.
* Avoid spicy foods,if you sweat a lot because they stimulate the sweat glands to produce sweat more.
* Walk bare foot as often as you can. It gives your feet an avenue to breath and to be dry.
* Wash your hair as often as you can and use some nicely scented hair cream.
